Welcome to this quarter's OpenVMS Alpha Software Products Library Package

HP TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Mandatory Update (MUP)

HP has determined that Alpha and Integrity server systems running TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS have a potential security vulnerability.  This vulnerability could be exploited, allowing unauthorized users access to the machine.   The following Mandatory Security Updates are now included on the Software Product Library release:

TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Version 5.6 ECO 2

Kit:  DEC-AXPVMS-TCPIP-V0506-9ECO2-1.PCSI$COMPRESSED

TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Version 5.4 ECO 7

Kit:   DEC-AXPVMS-TCPIP-V0504-15ECO7-1.PCSI;1

TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS V5.6 ECO 2 replaces all previous V5.6* versions, and TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS V5.4 ECO 7 replaces all previous V5.4* versions.  HP recommends that these mandatory updates be installed as soon as possible.

Astaware Search Engine Problem with Microsoft® Windows® Vista

The Astaware search engine, used with the Online Documentation Library (ODL), does not currently support Windows Vista for searches. This is only a problem for Windows Vista customers who choose to do a search instead of using the links provided on the ODL.

In order to use the current version of the search software with Windows Vista, users must run the file "SDWinjava.bat". This file resides in the root directory of the Online Documentation Library disk and can be located with Windows Explorer. When SDWinjava.bat is executed a window is opened, and the search function will be enabled. The open window should not be closed until you are finished searching.

We anticipate the next quarterly distribution will include an Astaware update to correct the problem.

Full-Kit Software Patches are included on the Software Products Library

Please be aware that some products will ship a "Full-Kit Software Patch" on the Software Products Library.  The “Full-Kit Software Patch” will be delivered either as a replacement or as an additional revision for the currently shipping software product.  These software patches have been qualified and are approved for shipment to the Software Products Library audience.  Software patches can be identified with an ECO in the Kit Type column.  Details regarding the software patch version are available in each product's cover letter.  The Full-Kit Software Patch should be handled as a maintenance release.

HP Services Tools CD

The Services Tools CD included with the Software Products Library contains analysis, diagnosis and remote support software, for example WEBES and ISEE, for use by HP’s service engineers and HP’s Authorized Service Provider service engineers.  The software and associated documentation on this CD are for use on systems that have hardware warranty, a service contract, or service obligation.

The Services Tools CD and associated web pages may contain new diagnosis software that is applicable to the system and should be reviewed for the most recent updates to the diagnosis tools.  http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/svctools/
