The sections in this chapter provide the necessary information to prepare for installation. You will need to know about and be aware of your installation options and information related to the installation procedure. This chapter allows you to determine the following: o If the system on which you will install POLYCENTER Common Agent meets the hardware, software, and disk space requirements o Which optional POLYCENTER Common Agent subsets you should install o Whether you have to back up your system disk 1.1 Release Notes POLYCENTER Common Agent provides online release notes. You should read the release notes before using the product, as they can contain information about changes critical to the application. To obtain the release notes, use the setld command to install the Common Agent Release Note subset. Base Kit: # setld -l ECOREL110 The release notes for POLYCENTER Common Agent Base Kit are located in /usr/opt/ECO110/doc/eco_release_notes_110.txt. Developer's Toolkit: # setld -l EDOREL110 Preparing for Installation 1-1 The release notes for POLYCENTER Common Agent Developer's Toolkit are located in /usr/opt/EDO110/doc/edo_release_ notes_110.txt. 1.2 License Registration A License Product Authorization Key (License PAK) must be registered in the License Database (LDB) before you can use POLYCENTER Common Agent on a newly licensed node. The License PAK may be shipped along with the kit if you ordered the license and media together; otherwise, it is shipped separately to a location based on your license order. If you are installing POLYCENTER Common Agent as an update on a node already licensed for Common Agent, you have already completed the License PAK registration requirements. If you are installing prerequisite or optional software along with POLYCENTER Common Agent, review the PAK status and install the PAKs for any prerequisite or optional software before you install POLYCENTER Common Agent. To register a license under the DEC OSF/1 system, log in as superuser. At the superuser prompt, edit an empty PAK template with the lmf register command and include all the information on your License PAK as follows: # lmf register After you register your license, use the following commands to copy the license details for the Base Kit from the License Database (LDB) to the kernel cache: # lmf load 0 COM-AGNT-BAS # lmf reset For the Developer's Toolkit use the following commands: # lmf load 0 COM-AGNT-DEV # lmf reset For complete information on using the DEC OSF/1 License Management Facility, see the DEC OSF/1 Guide to Software License Management or the lmf(8) reference page. 1-2 Preparing for Installation 1.3 Checking the Media Software Distribution Kit If you are installing the software from media, use the Bill of Materials (BOM) to check the contents of your software distribution kit. The kit includes this installation guide, a CD-ROM disc, and a letter entitled Read Before Installing. This letter provides information that is important for you to know before installing POLYCENTER Common Agent. This information might not be included in this installation guide or the release notes. Find this letter and read it now. 1.4 Installation Procedure Requirements This section discusses the various requirements for installing POLYCENTER Common Agent.
