DIGITAL_Enterprise_Mail_Monitor_______________ Installing on a DIGITAL UNIX System Revision/Update Information: Version 3.0 This card contains the information that you need to install the Mail Monitor on a DIGITAL UNIX system. Order Number: AV-R6BEA-TE Installation Prerequisites Before you install the DIGITAL[TM] Enterprise Mail Monitor, do the following: o Make sure the following software is installed on your system: - DIGITAL[TM] UNIX[R] Version 3.2, or later - If you intend to use DECnet, either DECnet[TM]- Plus formerly known as DECnet/OSI for DIGITAL UNIX Version 3.2A, or later, or DECnet-Plus for DIGITAL UNIX Version 4.0, or later, including the DNANETMAN subset. If you intend to use the DECnet/OSI Transport Service, you will also need the DNABASE* and DNADLI* subsets (where * is 032 or 040). If you intend to use the TCP/IP Transport Service, you will also, on a DIGITAL UNIX V3.2 system, need the DNARFC1006 subset. Later versions have RFC1006 functions built into the operating system. o Back up your system disk. o Deinstall any Mail Monitor subsets already installed on your system as follows: # setld -d NAMONSRVnnn Replace nnn with the number that applies to the saveset you want to deinstall; for example # setld -d NAMONSR021 o Ensure that CXXSHRDA307 is installed. This shared library is automatically available on a DIGITAL UNIX V4.0 (or later) system. If you have an earlier version of DIGITAL UNIX, the library is available through DIGITAL Services. 2 Information Required To install the Mail Monitor, you need to know the the following information: o The device name for the drive where the CD-ROM will be mounted. o If you are installing the Mail Monitor from a RIS server area, the name of the RIS server area. Time Required The time it takes to install the Mail Monitor depends on the resources available on your system, and the number of scanning modules you need. The installation takes approximately 10 minutes on a DECstation[TM] 2100, when installing all scanning modules. Disk Space Required The following table shows the approximate amount of disk space required (in Kilobytes), in /usr and /usr/opt for each of the Mail Monitor subsets and the corresponding softlinks for the Mail Monitor files. __________________________________________________________ Subset_Title_________________Subset_Name______Space_______ Enterprise Mail Monitor NAMONSRV030 1000 kB Server Enterprise Mail Monitor NAMONentity- 2000 kB Scanning_Modules_____________name030______________________ Installing the Mail Monitor 1. Log in with superuser privileges and make sure you are in the root directory. For a RIS installation, continue at step 3. 2. Mount the disk using the device name as follows: mount -r -d /dev/device_name /mnt 3. Load the subsets as follows: for CD-ROM: # setld -l /mnt/NAMONSRV030/kit 3 for RIS, using the name of the RIS server area: # setld -l ris_area Follow the prompts to install the server, and then use this command to install the scanning modules: for CD-ROM: # setld -l /mnt/NAMONSSM030/kit for RIS, using the name of the RIS server area: # setld -l ris_area After the Installation The setup tasks required after installation are described in the DIGITAL Enterprise Mail Monitor Server Guide, including: o Authorizing clients o Setting up peer servers Environment Variables You Need to Set Up When you have installed Mail Monitor on a system without DECnet, you need to define environment variables for the transport service. Edit /sbin/init.d/namon030; before the call to /usr/opt/NAMON030/namon_server add these commands: NAMON_TRANSPORT=TCPIP NAMON_SERVICE=nam$server NAMON_NODE=server-name Release Notes and Further Information After installation, the file /usr/doc/namon030_srv.release_ notes contains the release notes. Chapter 9 of the DIGITAL Enterprise Mail Monitor Server Guide contains a list of the files that should be present on your system after installation, and information about how to contact DIGITAL if the installation fails. 4 __________________________________________________________ Copyright_Information_____________________________________ July 1997 Digital Equipment Corporation makes no representations that the use of its products in the manner described in this publication will not infringe on existing or future patent rights, nor do the descriptions contained in this publication imply the granting of licenses to make, use, or sell equipment or software in accordance with the description.
