DIGITAL_Enterprise_Mail_Monitor_______________ Installing on an OpenVMS System Revision/Update Information: Version 3.0 This card contains the information that you need to install the Mail Monitor on an OpenVMS system. Order Number: AV-R6BDA-TE Installation Prerequisites Before you install the DIGITAL[TM] Enterprise Mail Monitor: o Ensure the following software is installed on your system: - OpenVMS[TM] VAX[TM] Version 6.2, or later, excluding OpenVMS VAX Version 7.0. - OpenVMS[TM] Alpha Version 6.2, or later, excluding OpenVMS Alpha Version 7.0. - DECnet[TM]-Plus, formerly known as DECnet/OSI for OpenVMS, Version 6.3, or later, including the OSI Applications Kernel (OSAK), or TCP/IP together with VMS/ULTRIX [TM] Connection, Version 3.3. o Ensure you have access to the SYSTEM account. o Back up your system disk using the OpenVMS Backup Utility. o Make sure any previous version of Mail Monitor is shut down before installing the new version of the Mail Monitor. See the OpenVMS system management documentation for information about the OpenVMS Backup utility. Information Required To install the Mail Monitor, you need to know the name of the device from which the installation kit will be loaded. Time Required The time it takes to install the Mail Monitor depends on the resources available on your system, and the number of scanning modules you need. The installation takes approximately 15 minutes on a VAXstation[TM] 3500, when installing all scanning modules. 2 Disk Space Required The following table shows the approximate amount of disk space required on the system disk (in blocks) during and after installation for the different components. __________________________________________________________ Space Required Component Title (in blocks) _____________________________________During______After____ Enterprise Mail Monitor Server 3500 2000 Enterprise Mail Monitor Scanning 4900 1300 Modules___________________________________________________ Installing the Mail Monitor From the SYSTEM account on the node or cluster where you want to install a Mail Monitor component, type one of these commands (depending on the hardware you are using): On OpenVMS VAX Systems @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL NAMONSRVV030 device OPTIONS N On OpenVMS Alpha Systems @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL NAMONSRVA030 device OPTIONS N where device is the name of the device where the distribution medium is to be mounted, for example MUA0. Follow the prompts to install the server, and then type one of these commands to install the scanning modules (depending on the hardware you are using): On OpenVMS VAX Systems @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL NAMONSSMV030 device:[SSM] OPTIONS N On OpenVMS Alpha Systems @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL NAMONSSMA030 device:[SSM] OPTIONS N 3 After the Installation The setup tasks required after installation are described in the DIGITAL Enterprise Mail Monitor Server Guide, including: o Setting network object characteristics (in an OpenVMS Cluster) o Authorizing clients o Setting up peer servers Logical Names You Need to Set Up When you have installed Mail Monitor on a system without DECnet, you need to define logical names for the transport service. Edit the startup file (sys$startup:namon$start.com) and add these commands: $ define NAMON$TRANSPORT TCPIP $ define NAMON$SERVICE nam$server $ define NAMON$NODE server-name Release Notes and Further Information After installation, the release notes are kept in SYS$COMMON:[SYSHLP]NAMONSRV030.RELEASE_NOTES.
