ABOUT DIGITAL OFFICE SERVER WEB INTERFACE DIGITAL Office Server Web Interface is a web server extension application that enables access via a web browser (such as Netscape Navigator[TM] or Microsoft[R] Internet Explorer) to the DIGITAL Office Server File Cabinet. It works in conjunction with either Office Server Version 4.0 or 4.0A, or ALL-IN-1 Version 3.2. Where this document refers to DIGITAL Office Server, unless otherwise stated, it applies equally to to both Office Server and ALL-IN-1 software. Where this document refers to the Web Interface, it refers to the DIGITAL Office Server Web Interface product. Supported Clients and Servers The Web Interface supports the following clients: o Netscape Navigator 3.01 o Netscape Communicator 4.04 o Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 The Web Interface supports: o Microsoft Internet Information Server 3.0, on Windows NT Version 4 for Intel or Alpha, using the ISAPI interface. o Netscape FastTrack Server 2.01, on Windows NT, using the NSAPI interface o Process Software Purveyor Server 2.0 on OpenVMS Unsupported Clients and Servers Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 3 and Netscape Navigator 3.0 are not supported, as there are known problems when using these product versions with the Web Interface Version 5.01. Users of Internet Explorer Version 3 are advised to upgrade to Version 4.01-see http://www.microsoft.com for details of upgrades. Users of Netscape Navigator are advised to upgrade to at least version 3.01-see http://www.netscape.com for details of upgrades. The Common Gateway Interface (CGI) is not supported in Version 5.01 of the Web Interface. Features New features of this release of the Web Interface include: o Answer - answer a message either while reading it, or by selecting it from a folder listing, such as the Inbox. o Forward - forward a message or document either while reading it, or by selecting it from a folder listing. o Create - create and send a new message. o Delete - delete the current item, or one or more items selected from a folder listing. o Refile - refile the current item, or one or more items selected from a folder listing. There are also some general and cosmetic changes from Version 4.0: o An UP button to ease navigation back up the File Cabinet hierarchy. o Selection boxes in the list of documents to allow you to work with documents without needing to read them. INSTALLATION Software Requirements You must be running one of the following to use the Web Interface: o Microsoft Windows NT Version 4.0 Service Pack 3 for Intel or Alpha o DIGITAL UNIX Version 4.0B o OpenVMS Versions 6.2 to 7.1 Installing the Kit See the DIGITAL Office Server Web Interface: Setting Up and Customizing book for details of how to install the kit and set up your system. The Setting Up and Customizing book is called DOSWI_ SETUP.PS (PostScript version) and DOSWI_SETUP.TXT (text version) in the kit. RESTRICTIONS The following restrictions apply to this kit: o Using Internet Explorer 4, switching off auto-refresh does not always work When using Internet Explorer 4, with auto-refresh switched off, automatic refreshing still takes place when you delete or refile from an index. o Using a Netscape browser, pressing RETURN at the subject field of the Create Message form sends the message Using a Netscape browser, pressing RETURN at the subject field of the Create Message form sends the message. This is because of the way that Netscape browsers work. Use the recommended way of moving between fields instead- using the mouse, or the tab key. o Bookmarks to public drawers do not work when logged off If you are logged off, and you make a bookmark to a public drawer, then log on and try to use the bookmark, it fails with a Service Unavailable error. Workaround: If you want to make a bookmark to a public drawer, log on first. o On OpenVMS, there are problems with large searches If you search for a large number of items (for example, all the contents of a drawer), you may receive the error, "Document contains no data". If you perform smaller searches, there are no such problems. o On OpenVMS, "Service Unavailable" error is sometimes generated Under certain circumstances, an attempt to connect to the Web Interface on an OpenVMS cluster generates a "Service unavailable" error. If you receive this error, please report it to DIGITAL, noting the circumstances under which the error occurred. To clear the problem, stop, then start the web server. o On DIGITAL UNIX, folder names containing accented characters are not supported unless you have international support You cannot use a folder name with an accented character, such as a letter e with an acute accent, or a u with an umlaut, unless you have installed the OSFEURLOC410 subset. o Deleting a document places the document in the Wastebasket of your Main drawer o Opening multiple browser windows is not supported o Treatment of foreign files If you read an AVI or Acrobat file (for example) in your File Cabinet from the Web Interface, you are told that a file called x.FGN cannot be viewed. The Web Interface uses the Handling field to know what application needs to be launched, but some launched applications do not know what to do with a .FGN file. Workaround: Save the file to your local hard disk with the correct file extension, for example, x.AVI or x.PDF, then view it. o Using List Available Drawers without Logging On with an ALL-IN-1 Version 3.2 system If you use List Available Drawers without logging on, ALL-IN-1 Version 3.2 may display a list of all the drawers in the system, rather than just those drawers available to you. Even though the drawers are displayed, you can still only access those drawers to which you have access. There is a patch available that fixes this problem for ALL-IN-1 Version 3.2 - contact your DIGITAL representative for details. o Bookmarks and URLs created in earlier versions may not work The Web Interface does not support URLs created in ALL-IN-1 Web Interface Version 1.0. If you have created bookmarks using Version 4.0 of the Web Interface, these may not work in Version 5.01. If you have problems with previously-created bookmarks, recreate these in Version 5.01. o Using a privileged UIC group for WEB$ACCESS may cause problems If you use a UIC group numbered 1-10 for the WEB$ACCESS account, you are using a privileged group. This means that the file cabinet server will allow access to any drawer on the system to non-logged in users. DIGITAL recommends that, for security reasons, you do not use a privileged UIC group for WEB$ACCESS. o Using Message Header-generated distribution lists from Office Server If you use the DLM option from the Office Server VT interface to generate a distribution list from a message header, and then try to use the generated distribution list from the Web Interface, it may not deliver to the second address on the list. As a workaround, you can create the distribution list, but you must manually edit it from the VT interface, then save it. This re-formats the distribution list so that you can use it from the Web Interface. TROUBLESHOOTING The following hints may help you if you experience problems: o Error if wrong permissions are set on awi.dll If you have the wrong permissions set on awi.dll, for example, no Execute permission or no Read permission is granted, you will generate a popup logon form asking for the username and password for "unknown". o Cannot see image or help files after installation If you cannot see image or help files after installation, make sure that you have performed the postinstallation tasks detailed in the Setting Up and Customizing guide. ________________ ALL-IN-1, DEC, DIGITAL, OpenVMS, TeamLinks, VAXmail, and WPS-PLUS are trademarks of DIGITAL Equipment Corporation.
