These are described in the following paragraphs. V6.1 HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha supports the following printers for high quality Korean printing with the installation of Asian Printing Support for OpenVMS and DECprint Supervisor for OpenVMS (DCPS). Please refer to Asian Printing Support for OpenVMS Version 1.0 Release Notes for details. o DEClaser 1152 o DEClaser 5100 o PrintServer 17/600 V7.2 HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha can also use all PostScript printers supported by DCPS Version 2.4 or higher with World-Wide PostScript Printing Subsystem to provide high quality Korean printing service. Introduction 1-5 Introduction 1.2 OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha Environment 1.2.6 Terminal Support V1.5 HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha supports the VT382-K Korean terminal. 1.3 OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha Installation This guide contains brief installation procedures for the HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha Version 8.3 operating system. For complete instructions on installing or upgrading the HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha operating system, refer to the HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha Version 8.3 Installation Guide which contains installation and operation information on AlphaServer computer families. V6.2 Starting from Version 6.2, HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha will be installed using PCSI but not VMSINSTAL procedure. 1.3.1 Installation Procedure V8.3 HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha Version 8.3 requires HP OpenVMS Alpha Version 8.3 as the prerequisite software. Follow the steps below to install HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha Version 8.3: 1. Prepare an HP OpenVMS Alpha Version 8.3 operating system. 2. Install the Korean locale from the DEC-AXPVMS-VMSI18N- V0803--1.PCSI kit. If you are planning to use PostScript printers for printing, you are recommended to install the DECprint Supervisor for OpenVMS (DCPS) Version 2.4 or higher . 3. Use PCSI to install HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha Version 8.3. Please refer to the HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha Version 8.3 Installation Guide for details on installing the HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha Version 8.3. 1-6 Introduction 2 _________________________________________________________________ General Release Notes This chapter contains information that is of interest to all users of the HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha operating system. It includes information about commonly used utilities and text processing utilities. This chapter describes changes that affect the following areas of HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha: o Asian Printing Support o Korean Date and Time Support o Editors o Hmail utility o HTPU and HEVE o Search utility 2.1 Asian Printing Support V6.1 High quality Korean printing for OpenVMS is provided by installing the Asian Printing Support sub-kit called ASPS010. It allows users to print Korean text files and Korean PostScript files with PostScript printers. Therefore, when you enter the EDIT command, HTPU is invoked rather than the TPU editor. The EDIT command now invokes HTPU with the HEVE section file. For details, see HTPU and HEVE Version 3.1 notes. V6.2 ________________________ Note ________________________ The HEDT editor is still included as part of the OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha operating system. Starting from version 6.2, HEDT is an Alpha native image, instead of translated image. ______________________________________________________ 2-2 General Release Notes General Release Notes 2.4 Hmail Utility 2.4 Hmail Utility V1.5 The default editor for the Hmail utility has been changed to HTPU from HEDT. Therefore, when you enter the EDIT command in the Hmail utility, the Hangul Extensible Versatile Editor (HEVE) is invoked rather than the HEDT editor. For more information about this change, refer to OpenVMS/Hangul User Guide for information about selecting an editor. V7.1 Hmail supports the following new features: o Signature File o /PAGE qualifier o /NEXT qualifier These new features are identical to those that are in the OpenVMS Mail utility. For a detailed description of these features, please refer to the OpenVMS Version 7.0 New Features Manual. 2.5 HTPU and HEVE Version 3.1 Notes V1.5 HTPU is an enhancement of DECTPU Version 3.1 to support Korean text processing, which includes built-in procedures and callable interfaces, for OpenVMS applications. HEVE is a full-screen editor developed with HTPU to support Korean text editing on the HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha operating system. See HEVE User Guide for more information on using HEVE. 2.5.1 Invoking HTPU from DCL prompt HTPU is invoked with the following command: $ EDIT/HTPU or simply $ EDIT HTPU is now the default editor on OpenVMS/Hangul. General Release Notes 2-3 General Release Notes 2.5 HTPU and HEVE Version 3.1 Notes 2.5.2 HTPU and HEVE now support DECwindows Motif /Hangul Environment You can now start up HTPU using DECwindows Motif /Hangul V1.1 or higher, as follows: $ SET DISPLAY/CREATE/NODE= $ EDIT/HTPU/INTERFACE=DECWINDOWS In this case, HEVE will start up its own DECwindows Motif /Hangul interface and select the language of its pull down and pop up menus according to the current setting of DECwindows Motif /Hangul. 2.5.2.1 Korean input method handling You can start the Korean input method in HTPU DECwindows Motif /Hangul interface by pressing on LK201 keyboard or on LK401 keyboard. After starting up the input method, it behaves the same as that in your terminal. One exception is that if you want to terminate the input method, you have to use the same sequence that you use to start it up. During your editing session, the input method process of DECwindows may be terminated. In this case, simply restarting the process does not make HTPU use the Korean input method. You also need to reset the input method handling of HTPU. HEVE provides a menu item "Reset Input Method" under the "Option" menu. You can use this command to reset the input method of HTPU. 2.5.3 HTPU now supports buffer change journaling HTPU is now enhanced to support buffer change journaling. Buffer change journaling is the default journaling mechanism of HTPU, and is enabled by default. The journal file is located in the directory pointed to by HTPU$JOURNAL. By default, HTPU$JOURNAL is defined as SYS$SCRATCH which is pointing to your login directory. The journal file naming algorithm follows that of DECTPU. 2-4 General Release Notes General Release Notes 2.5 HTPU and HEVE Version 3.1 Notes 2.5.4 New HTPU built-in procedures 2.5.4.1 GET_INFO (SCREEN, "display_cursor") The built-in returns the current state of the display- cursor mode of HTPU. The syntax is as follows: {ON | OFF} := GET_INFO (SCREEN, "display_cursor") 2.5.4.2 GET_INFO (window-var, "character_index") This built-in returns the distance between the internal cursor position of HTPU and the position of the screen cursor. This is useful when display-cursor mode is turned ON so that you can determine if the internal cursor and screen cursor are at the screen position. The syntax is as follows: integer := GET_INFO (window-variable, "character_index") 2.5.4.3 JUSTIFY JUSTIFY reformats the text in the specified buffer or range so that the lines of the text can be indented to either left margin, right margin or both. The syntax of the built-in is as follows: JUSTIFY ({buffer, range} [,keyword [,left_margin [,right_margin [,first_line_indent]]]]) You can specify the following values to the keyword parameter: JUSTIFY_LEFT JUSTIFY_RIGHT JUSTIFY_BOTH JUSTIFY first calls the FILL built-in, and then inserts spaces into the lines of the buffer or range to achieve the requested indentation. 2.5.4.4 SET (DISPLAY_CURSOR) HTPU now supports display-cursor mode. You can turn ON or OFF the display-cursor mode using this built-in. The syntax is as follows: General Release Notes 2-5 General Release Notes 2.5 HTPU and HEVE Version 3.1 Notes SET (DISPLAY_CURSOR, {ON, OFF}) When display-cursor mode is ON, the screen cursor is always on the first byte of any character. If display-cursor mode is OFF, HTPU behaves the same as in the previous version. 2.5.5 Newly modified HTPU built-in procedures 2.5.5.1 SEARCH The SEARCH built-in now separates form-size sensitivity and case sensitivity. You can specify the following values, or their combination, to the integer parameter of the SEARCH built-in: TPU$K_SEARCH_CASE TPU$K_SEARCH_FORM TPU$K_SEARCH_CASE and TPU$K_SEARCH_FORM turn on case and form-size sensitivities of search respectively. It makes sure the lines all end on the right margin of the buffer by inserting spaces into the lines. 2.5.6.8 SET [NO]DISPLAY CURSOR This command set ON or OFF the display-cursor mode of HTPU. With the display-cursor mode turned ON, the problem of continual left shifting of screen cursor when the cursor is being moved up and down in your text buffer is fixed. The display-cursor mode is turned ON by HEVE by default. DECwindows Motif support is provided by OpenVMS/Hangul in conjunction with DECwindows Motif/Hangul. For details, please refer to DECwindows Motif/Hangul V1.6 Release Notes. 3.1.2 Korean Character Fonts for DECwindows Motif/Hangul The kit of HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha contains Korean character font files for DECwindows Motif/Hangul. If you are planning to install DECwindows Motif/Hangul on your system in the future, it is recommended that you install these font files during the installation of HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha. Users are recommended to install HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha before installing DECwindows Motif/Hangul. See HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha Version 8.3 Installation Guide for details. 3.2 Debugger V7.1 The OpenVMS Debugger is a symbolic debugger. It is the preferred debugger for debugging user-mode code. It supports the symbolic debugging of all OpenVMS programming languages via either a character cell user interface or a graphic (DECwindows Motif) user interface. Both user interfaces now support the DEC Korean Character Set for Programming and System Management Release Notes 3-1 Programming and System Management Release Notes 3.2 Debugger input and display. Korean characters in program variables, source code comments or OpenVMS Debugger error messages are displayed correctly. ________________________ Note ________________________ The DEC Korean Character Set support in the OpenVMS Debugger is implemented with the XPG4 internationalization model. This requires an XPG4 locale database for the DEC Korean Character Set. This locale database can be found in the DEC-AXPVMS- VMSI18N-V0803--1.PCSI saveset that is shipped with HP OpenVMS Alpha Version 8.3. This saveset must be installed separately using VMSINSTAL procedure. ______________________________________________________ 3.2.1 User Environment Setup 3.2.1.1 Character Cell User Interface The character cell user interface of the OpenVMS Debugger uses Korean SMG together with DEC C's XPG4 localization utilities to support the DEC Korean Character Set. The following logical names must be defined to enable this support: o DBG$SMGSHR This logical name defines the name of the SMG shareable image that the OpenVMS Debugger uses to support screen mode. To enable DEC Korean Character Set support in the OpenVMS Debugger, define this logical name as follows: $ DEFINE/JOB LANG KO_KR_DECKOREAN 3.2.1.2 DECwindows Motif User Interface The DECwindows Motif user interface of the OpenVMS Debugger can display characters in the DEC Korean Character Set. The debugger's resource file, VMSDEBUG.DAT, found in the directory DECW$SYSTEM_DEFAULT or DECW$USER_DEFAULTS, can explicitly specify fonts for each of the debugger's windows. In VMSDEBUG.DAT, the DebugDefault.font resource specifies a default font for all of the debugger's windows. Each window can also use a font that is different from this default. For details please refer to the VMSDEBUG.DAT file. To enable DEC Korean Character Set support in an OpenVMS Debugger window, the window must use a DEC Korean Character Set font. The font is specified in one of the following ways: 1. Explicitly specified by the resource for the debugger window; 2. Specified by the debugger's default font resource DebugDefault.font, when a font is not explicitly specified as above; 3. Specified by the system default font resource, when neither the debugger's default font resource nor the debugger window's font resource specify a font. 3.2.2 EXAMINE Command The EXAMINE command supports a new qualifier /WCHAR_ T:n. This command interprets and displays each examined entity as a multi-byte file code sequence of n longwords (n characters). The default value for n is 1. When converting the examined string, the OpenVMS Debugger uses the locale database of the process in which the debugger runs. The default is C locale. Two new parameters, character- code and character-set, are added to the end of the parameter list. The character-code parameter receives the character which the physical cursor is on. The character-set parameter receives the character set for the current physical cursor position. o SMG$PUT_HELP_TEXT The character-set parameter is added to the end of the parameter list to specify the character set to be used when writing out the help text. The help topic string pointed to by the help-topic parameter must be composed of ASCII characters. If the help topic is not composed of ASCII characters, the help-topic parameter is ignored and the help facility is just invoked. o SMG$PUT_STATUS_LINE The character-set parameter is added to the end of the parameter list to specify the character set to be used when writing out the text to the hardware status line. o SMG$READ_COMPOSED_LINE The character-set parameter is added to the end of the parameter list to specify the character set of the characters to be read. o SMG$READ_FROM_DISPLAY The character-set-string parameter is added to the end of the parameter list to show the corresponding character set for the respective bytes in the text string in the display. o SMG$READ_STRING The character-set parameter is added to the end of the parameter list to specify the character set of the characters to be read. o SMG$REPLACE_INPUT_LINE Programming and System Management Release Notes 3-9 Programming and System Management Release Notes 3.6 Run-Time Libraries for Korean Processing The character-set parameter is added to the end of the parameter list to specify the character set of the replace-string. If this parameter is omitted, the default character set value is SMG$C_UNKNOWN. o SMG$RETURN_INPUT_LINE The character-set parameter is added to the end of the parameter list to receive the character set of the requested line from the recall buffer. If the character set is undefined, it receives SMG$C_UNKNOWN. 3.6.2.4 SMG$DEFAULT_CHARACTER_SET logical name This is a new feature introduced by Korean SMG. Korean SMG uses the SMG$DEFAULT_CHARACTER_SET logical name to define the default character set. It supports the same simplified and full callable interfaces of DECTPU. To use the HTPU callable interface, you should link SYS$SHARE:HTPUSHR.EXE with your program. Please refer to OpenVMS/Hangul User Guide for an example of using HTPU callable interface. For details of the DECTPU callable interfaces, see Chapter 14 of OpenVMS Callable Utilities Reference Manual. 3.7 Translated Images and Other Related Files V1.5 HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha provides translated image support, which allows any translated image to run on the Translated Image Environment (TIE). OpenVMS/Hangul VAX applications translated by the VAX Environment Software Translator (VEST) can run on the HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha operating system. This problem has been corrected in this version of HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha. Starting with Version 7.0, if a user attempts to forward a foreign file, the FORWARD command fails and the user is returned to the HMAIL> prompt. No message of any kind is displayed. This has been modified to correctly allow forwarding of foreign files in this version of HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha. 4.2 Correction in Korean Screen Management (SMG$) Run-Time Library V7.1 Applications that are linked with HSMGSHR.EXE of HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha Versions 6.1, 6.2 and 7.0 may experience access violation problems that occur in the Korean SMG routines. This problem has been fixed in this version of HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha. 4.3 Correction in OpenVMS/Hangul User Guide V7.1 This note describes corrections in the OpenVMS/Hangul User Guide Version 1.5 AXP and Version 6.0 VAX. In the Korean Folder Name section and the Korean String Matching section of Chapter 6, the examples of generating and selecting folders with Korean names have error. There should be no space character within the folder name. Problems Corrected 4-1 Problems Corrected 4.3 Correction in OpenVMS/Hangul User Guide In the chapter of the Korean Date and Time Support, there are typos in the Table 9-1, Table 9-3 and the examples of section 9.5, section 9.6, section 9.8.1 and section 9.8.2. The typos will be corrected in the future version of OpenVMS/Hangul User Guide. 4.4 Correction in HANGULGEN V7.0 The OpenVMS/Hangul User Guide Version 1.5 AXP and Version 6.0 VAX states that the /SYSTEM qualifier of the HANGULGEN utility requires PHY_IO privilege. Similarly, the help text in the HANGULGEN utility also states this requirement. This is incorrect. The required privileges should be PHY_ IO and SYSPRV. The HANGULGEN utility help text has been corrected in Version 7.0; the OpenVMS/Hangul User Guide will be corrected in a future version of the manual. 4.5 Correction in Terminal Driver The following problems for terminal I/O have been corrected in this version of HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha. 4.5.1 Read Verify V6.1 In the previous version of OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha, the system will crash if an application reads data from the terminal using the read verify and noecho features of the terminal driver, while the user deletes a Korean character. This situation typically occurs with applications that uses DECforms/Hangul. 4.5.2 Uppercasing V6.1 The uppercasing feature of the terminal driver transforms lowercase Latin characters (e.g. lower case characters in the English alphabet) to their uppercase equivalents. In the previous version of OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha, Korean characters are transformed incorrectly when the terminal I/O is performed in NOECHO and NOFILTER mode. 4.5.3 Control Character V7.2 In the pervious version of OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha, the system will crash when terminal driver deals with some single byte control characters under certain conditions. 4-2 Problems Corrected Problems Corrected 4.6 Correction in DCL 4.6 Correction in DCL V6.1 In OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha V1.5, programs which call the library routines LIB$DELETE_SYMBOL, LIB$GET_SYMBOL, and LIB$SET_SYMBOL will not work properly and access violation may occur. In OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha V6.1, this problem has been fixed and all such programs will work properly. 4.7 Correction in Show V6.2 In the previous versions of OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha, SHOW QUEUE/FULL command would display incorrect working set information. This problem has been corrected in this version of HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha. V7.3- In OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha Version 7.2-2, and 7.3, a SHOW 1 QUEUE command would display "no privilege" on the username filed, instead of the user name. In addition, the file size of the jobs was incorrectly displayed on the Blocks field. This problem has been fixed in this version of HP OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha. 4.8 Compatibility problem with ALLIN1/Hangul V7.2 The installation of the ALLIN1/Hangul Alpha will fail when ALLIN1/Hangul Alpha Version 3.2 is installed into OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha Version 7.2. Therefore, starting from Version 7.2, ALLIN1/Hangul Alpha is not supported in OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha. Problems Corrected 4-3 5 _________________________________________________________________ Restrictions and Known Problems This chapter describes the restrictions and known problems in this version of OpenVMS/Hangul Alpha. 5.1 Restriction in HTPU Motif Interface Currently, the HTPU Motif interface is available in English only. There is no Hangul HTPU Motif interface provided. The Korean output message setting under Hangulgen utility has no effect on the HTPU Motif interface. It means that you cannot change the languages of the HTPU Motif interface between English and Korean. The Hangul HTPU Motif interface will be provided in the future release. 5.2 Known Problem in HTPU When HTPU is invoked using DECwindows Motif /Hangul interface ($ HTPU/INTERFACE=MOTIF), it will fail to invoke the Korean input method and the following error message will be displayed. That is, Korean characters (except ASCII characters) input will be disabled. Users are recommended to use terminal interface if Korean characters input is required. %HTPU-I-RIMP_NOT_EXIST, RIMP for input method does not exist The problem will be fixed in the next future release.
