DIGITAL Software Product Description ___________________________________________________________________ PRODUCT NAME: BASEstar Classic DAS for Allen-Bradley Data Highway Pro- tocol, Version 3.4 SPD 64.67.00 DESCRIPTION The BASEstar Classic DAS for Allen-Bradley Data Highway Protocol al- lows users to access Allen-Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) through the BASEstar Classic Device Connect Manager (DCM). Via BASEstar Classic DCM, the user may configure path, type, device, and physical point definitions, and also configure for polled and un- solicited data collection. Using the BASEstar Classic DAS for Allen-Bradley Data Highway Proto- col, users or applications can perform a variety of device access func- tions for the Allen-Bradley family of PLCs. Examples of functions sup- ported for the Allen-Bradley PLCs include: reading and writing data, uploading and downloading logic programs, and reading the status of a device. The BASEstar Classic DAS for Allen-Bradley Data Highway Pro- tocol also supports structured data, which allows structures to be im- posed on plant-floor data. The BASEstar Classic DAS for Allen-Bradley Data Highway Protocol sup- ports the following Allen-Bradley PLCs: o Allen-Bradley PLC-1774 o Allen-Bradley PLC-2 Family of devices o Allen-Bradley PLC-3 Family of devices o Allen-Bradley PLC-5 Family of devices November 1996 The BASEstar Classic DAS for Allen-Bradley Data Highway Protocol sup- ports the following device access functions: o An Upload function that transfers the contents of device memory to an OpenVMS file (Not supported by the PLC-5/250) o A Download function that transfers the contents of an OpenVMS file to device memory (Not supported by the PLC-5/250) o Start and Stop functions that change the operating mode of a pro- grammable controller (Not supported for the PLC-2 family of devices) o A Read Data function that allows users and applications to read data from a specific address in device memory o A Write Data function that allows users and applications to write data to a specific address in device memory o A Read Status function that returns the following information: - Processor type and communications interface model - Operating mode, data table size, and memory size for a PLC-1774 system - Operating mode and data table size for a PLC-2 system - Operating mode, user program size, and memory size for a PLC- 3 system - Operating mode and memory size for a PLC-5 system o Receive Unsolicited Data from a device HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS Processors Supported The processors supported by the following products will also support the BASEstar Classic DAS for Allen-Bradley Data Highway Protocol: o BASEstar Classic Server for OpenVMS VAX V3.4 (development and run- time) 2 o BASEstar Classic Server for OpenVMS Alpha V3.4 (development and run- time) Other Hardware Required: In addition to any of the supported Allen-Bradley PLCs, an Allen-Bradley KE, KF or KF/2 communications card and a "VAX or Alpha communications card" or Terminal Server, and a RS232-C terminated cable are required. Disk Space Requirements (Block Cluster Size = 1) For Digital OpenVMS VAX and Alpha Kits Disk space 1,000 blocks required for installation Disk space 500 blocks required for use (permanent) These counts refer to the disk space required on the system disk. The sizes are approximate; actual sizes may vary depending on the user's system environment, configuration, and software options.
