DIGITAL Software Product Description ___________________________________________________________________ PRODUCT NAME: BASEstar Open DAS for Modicon, Version 3.1 SPD 55.51.04 DESCRIPTION The BASEstar Open Device Access Software (DAS) for Modicon allows users to access Modicon Programmable Logic Controllers through BASEstar Open Device Services, BASEstar Open Data Services or DEComni Services. Via BASEstar Open Device Services the user may configure device and variable definitions, read and write variable values, and configure for polled data collection and information reports. BASEstar Open Data Services provide device independent access to shop floor data allowing the user to configure data points, read and write data point values and generate events based on data changes. Users can also perform a variety of device access functions for Mod- icon Programmable Logic Controllers using the Modicon DAS by inter- facing directly to DEComni APIs. The BASEstar Open DAS for Modicon supports the following Modicon Pro- grammable Logic Controllers: o Modicon Micro 84 o Modicon 184, 384, 484, 584M, 584L, 884 o Modicon 984 family of devices The Modbus protocol is supported on both Digital UNIX on Alpha and Open- VMS VAX platforms, while Modbus Plus support is limited to the Open- VMS platforms. April 1997 AE-Q2GQC-TE HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS Processors Supported The processors supported by the following products will also support the DAS for Modicon: o BASEstar Open Server for OpenVMS VAX (development and runtime) o BASEstar Open Server for OpenVMS Alpha (development and runtime) o BASEstar Open Server for Digital UNIX (development and runtime) o DEComni for OpenVMS VAX o DEComni for OpenVMS Alpha o DEComni for Digital UNIX Other Hardware Required: Support for the Modbus Plus protocol on OpenVMS VAX systems requires a Q-bus interface, plus a special hardware card and software driver supplied by Modicon. Support for the Modbus Plus protocol on OpenVMS Alpha systems requires an ISA-bus interface, plus a special hardware card supplied by Mod- icon and a special software driver supplied by IPACT. Please contact Modicon Corporation and/or IPACT (Integrated Process Automation & Control Technologies) for the required hardware and soft- ware part numbers for each Interface. Disk Space Requirements (Block Cluster Size = 1) For Digital OpenVMS VAX and Alpha Kits Disk space 1,000 blocks required for installation 2 Disk space 500 blocks required for use (permanent) For Digital UNIX Kits Disk space 8,000 blocks required for installation Disk space 5,000 blocks required for use (permanent) These counts refer to the disk space required on the system disk. The sizes are approximate; actual sizes may vary depending on the user's system environment, configuration, and software options.
