Getting Started HP Tru64 UNIX[R] Online Documentation Library (ODL) for HP Tru64 UNIX AV-RU78N-TE Overview This document provides introductory information about the HP Tru64 UNIX Online Documentation Library (ODL) CD-ROM. It provides general and platform-specific installation and user information for the ODL. The Tru64 UNIX ODL CD-ROM is an ISO 9660 Level 2 (ODL-ISO) compliant CD-ROM that can be run from Microsoft Windows and Tru64 UNIX platforms. This disc contains documentation in HTML and PDF format, and uses HTML pages as the navigation mechanism to browse to and display documents. A search engine is also included for full text searching. Note: The Bookreader CD-ROM set (ODL-BKB), which is the archive set containing documentation in Bookreader format only, is now available online as a download- able image at the following location, along with Getting Started instructions - http://www1.aclabs.com/odl/bkb/bookreader.shtml System Requirements ODL-ISO CD-ROM * Tru64 UNIX Version 4 or later * Windows 98 SE, Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP * Web Browser * Adobe Acrobat Reader * Java 2 Standard Edition (J2SE) 1.3 or later (for search) Mounting the ODL-ISO CD-ROM Windows Platforms: * Insert the ODL-ISO disc into your CD-ROM drive. For a listing of products available on this CD-ROM, open prodlist.htm from the \odldoc folder on the CD-ROM or click on the link from contents.htm. This page also includes a listing of static documentation available on the Tru64 UNIX Bookreader CD-ROM. Searching ODL-ISO - Searching on Windows platforms: The main ODL page should display and the ASTAware SearchDisc search engine should launch when the disc is inserted into the drive. If it does not, run the SDWinjava.bat file from the root of the CD-ROM. The ASTAware SearchDisc icon should appear in your taskbar when the search engine is running. You can enter a search query in the search box from any ODL navigation page on the CD-ROM. **IMPORTANT** You must shut down the search engine by clicking the SearchDisc icon in your taskbar, before you eject the CD-ROM from your drive. This should also be done before putting in another CD-ROM to search. - Searching on Tru64 UNIX platforms: Change directory to the CD-ROM mount point, and execute the following shell script: searchdisc_unix.sh This will launch the SearchDisc server and will set up the communication ports. Launch your web browser and open index.htm from your CD-ROM mount point. You can enter a search query in the search box from any ODL navigation page on the CD-ROM. ***IMPORTANT** You must shut down the search engine by clicking in the SearchDisc popup window, before you eject the CD-ROM from your drive. Configuring Search for ODL on a Hard Drive (Windows Platforms Only) If you choose to copy the ODL-ISO CD-ROM content to a hard drive, you will need to reconfigure the search engine to retrieve search results from the new location. * Copy the entire CD-ROM to an area on a hard drive. For example, C:\ODL * Run MediaSwitcher.exe from the area you copied the CD-ROM to. This will reconfigure the search engine to search and retrieve search results from the new ODL-ISO location. This executable is located at the root of the CD-ROM. Note: Be sure that the search engine is shut down before proceeding. To shut the search engine down, click on the SearchDisc icon in your taskbar, and click yes when asked if you would like to shut down the search engine. * Enter the path where you copied your ODL CD-ROM to in the "Select the SearchDisc Installation Folder" box. For example, if you copied the CD-ROM to your C: drive in a folder named ODL, enter C:\ODL here. Click Next. * Enter the path again where you copied your ODL CD-ROM to in the "Select the Search Documents Folder" box. Click Install. * Restart the search engine by starting autolaunch.exe from the new location. Known Issue: The installer used for the Media Switch Utility, described above, is not currently supported for all language settings. If your language is not supported, you will receive an error stating, Installer User Interface Mode Not Supported, when attempting to run MediaSwitcher.exe from the root of the ODL collection on your hard drive. You can use either of the following workarounds to address this: Create a network drive of the directory where the ODL CD-ROM was copied to, making it appear as a virtual drive. From there, open autolaunch.exe. Temporarily change your regional settings on your computer to US English, run the MediaSwitcher.exe, then change the settings back to your original settings.
