HP OpenVMS supports 1.3 GHz and 1.15 GHz CPUs on AlphaServer systems

HP OpenVMS is pleased to announce support for 1.3 GHz CPUs on the AlphaServer GS1280 systems and for 1.15 GHz CPUs on the AlphaServer ES47 and ES80 Series systems. The latter support became available more than a month ahead of the August 6, 2004 target date. Prior to the release of these systems, the fastest CPUs shipped were 1 GHz on the AlphaServer ES47 and ES80 Series systems and 1.15 GHz on the AlphaServer GS1280 Series systems.

These increases in CPU speeds provide more processing power for your applications. The list prices of these systems have remained the same as systems with slower CPUs, making them even more cost effective. At the same time, the prices of memory and of the systems with slower CPUs have been reduced.

In addition to these increases in CPU speeds, the following new features and enhancements are also available:

  • Optional Ethernet NICs for AlphaServer GS1280, ES80, and ES47 systems
  • Increased maximum quantity for Gigabit Ethernet NICs, up from 8 to 16 per hard partition
  • New Digital Audio Tape (DAT) 72 X 6 tape autoloader
  • New Fibre Channel controllers, LP10000 single- and dual-channel
    • Performance—50,000 I/Os per second, 20 percent more than the LP9802
    • Density—the dual-channel version increases I/O density with 133 MHz PCI-X slots
    • Price/performance—considerably improved over the LP9802
    • Power consumption—the LP10000 uses 10 W compared to 14 W for the LP9802

OpenVMS Alpha Version 7.3-1, with all applicable patch kits, is the minimum version of OpenVMS that supports these systems. Standard support for OpenVMS Alpha Version 7.3-1 is in effect until December 31, 2004. (Prior version support will not be offered on this version.)
