Gigabit Ethernet utilizes a new technology that transfers data at a rate of one gigabit per
second, which is ten times the rate of a Fast Ethernet adapter. Gigabit Ethernet addresses
congestion experienced at the backbone and server levels of today’s networks and will
greatly enhance the performance of network applications.

Advanced Server Version 7.2A for OpenVMS Alpha provides networking functionally
equivalent to that of the Windows NT Server - with additional features to support new
features in OpenVMS V7.2. This software runs only on OpenVMS V7.2 and OpenVMS
V7.2-1 Alpha systems. You can upgrade from Advanced Server V7.2 to Advanced Server
V7.2A before you upgrade your Operating System to OpenVMS V7.2-1. Or, you can stay on
OpenVMS V7.2. Upgrading to Advanced Server V7.2A will give you the most recent
maintenance updates. Note: This product is only available on Alpha systems, so if you are a
VAX system user, you must use PATHWORKS V6.0B for OpenVMS. If you are using
COM V1.1, you must run Advanced Server V7.2A on OpenVMS V7.2-1 Alpha systems.

You can configure AlphaServer GS140, GS60, and GS60E systems as OpenVMS Galaxy
systems to run three instances of OpenVMS on AlphaServer GS140 systems or two instances
on AlphaServer GS60 and GS60E systems. To create an OpenVMS Galaxy environment on
AlphaServer GS140, GS60 and GS60E systems, you will need the latest version of the V5.4-xx
console firmware which can be obtained form the following location:

Multipath failover support is for failover between multiple paths that might exist between an
OpenVMS system and certain types of disk devices. Multipath failover increases
availability. If the current path to a mounted disk fails, the system automatically fails over to
the alternate path.

Compaq Availability Manager V1.2 now uses a Java® graphical user interface (GUI) to
display information about OpenVMS nodes on a Windows NT system. Because the new
GUI is Java based, Availability Manager V1.2 can be run on OpenVMS or Windows NT.
Compaq Availability Manager is a system management tool integrated with OpenVMS and
used to improve OpenVMS system and OpenVMS Cluster availability. It enables monitoring
of one or more OpenVMS nodes on an extended local area network (LAN) from a Windows
NT node. While the software collects system and process data from multiple OpenVMS
nodes, it analyzes the data and displays the output via a graphical user interface.
