The Question is: Hi...we've got a little dilemma here you might have an idea on. We have a VAX 4200 running VMS 5.4-2. The VAX is connected to a LAN/WAN that routes not only LAT, but IP, IPX/SPX, and Appletalk. Reflection is the term-emulator of choice. Recently, some or all of our printer queues (standard, assigned to LTA designates) will hang up. The top job in the queue will change to a status of "starting" and never continues. When you try and stop the queue, it just hangs like it's looking and can't find it. LAT corruption or Network problem? We're not sure which way to lean. Any ideas? Thanks...PaulS The Answer is : This could be caused by LAT, the network, a controller somewhere, changes in network bridging timing (LAT cannot be routed, only bridged), or the queue manager -- please contact your software support organization, or the customer support center, for assistance. Your OpenVMS version predates the oldest release supported for "prior version support" software contracts, so you should expect to be asked to upgrade to at least OpenVMS VAX V5.5-2, to V6.2, or to the current V7.1 release. There was an overhaul of the queue manager performed at the V5.5 release. The older queue manager was indicated by the A5.5 through A5.5-2 version numbers, while the newer queue manager was indicated by the V5.5 through V5.5-2 version numbers. (There is a procedure on the system that will convert to the new queue manager, and from A5.5[-*] to V5.5[-*] called VMS$UPGRADE_A55_V55.COM.) There was also extensive work performed on LAT back during this same V5.5 time-frame.
