The Question is: We have bought some new HP 4000 N Postscript laser printers. These printer are to be used from the different systems installed in my company. I have problems to connect these printers to the Open-VMS environment (V6.1) through UCX (v4.1-2) and DCPS (v1.4). I have tried to use the IP_RawTCP protocol with the internal card (port 9100) and also throug a Axis print-server connected to the parallel port. The queue after some time go in stalled state and don't print anything. We use with success DCPS (through IP_RawTCP or LAT) with other thirdy part printers (i.e. Lexmark 10 Plus PS) without any problem. DCPS don't recognize these printers but print on them as "Unrecongized printer". I have seen that also some new Digital printers use the same NEC 64bit processor 100 MHz used in HP 4000N printers. I guess that DEC printers haven't problems with DCPS. How I can resolve the problem ? I have tried to insert in the DCPS$DEVCTL.TLB some HP4000N modules replicated from other HP modules already present in the library. But DCPS don't recognize the HP4000N because, I guess, the corrispondence between the product string (HP LaserJet 4000 series) and the name used in the library is contained in the code of DCPS symbiont. There is some way to resolve the problem before that it will be released a new version of DCPS containing the corrispondence and the library modules ? The last release of DCPS (v1.5) don't yet contain this new HP printers. Thank you S.Longobardo - Marconi spa - Genova - Italy The Answer is : Printers, like SCSI devices, tend to have variations. Please contact the customer support center for assistance. Resolving what differences exist with these printers may (will?) require some amount of direct engineering assistance from the DCPS team.
