The Question is: What is necessary to connect a Micro VAX, running V. 5.x VMS, to a Solaris based TCP/IP network? I am trying to preserve the VAX (because it hasn't been down once in 10 years) while supporting applications specific to Solaris and Windows. We use VT termin als, as well as WFW 3.11 systems with Pathworks connections and thick Ethernet to the Micro VAX. Because of the lack of support for Pathworks in W95/98, we can't upgrade the WFW 3.11 systems to W95/98. I am seeking a low $ solution, otherwise my employer may not keep the VAX. Thanks! The Answer is : You require the installation of an IP package on the OpenVMS system. Various are available. Specific details will depend on the specific IP package installed. Packages for PC systems include PATHWORKS and SAMBA. The PATHWORKS 32 product supports Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows NT V4.0 systems, and provides similar capabilities to the PATHWORKS for DOS/Windows product. For information on PATHWORKS 32, please see the Software Product Description (SPD) 56.33.xx.
