The Question is: Currently running VAX 6.2 and plan to mirgrate to a ALPHA 8400, can files be shared in a cluster by both the ALPHA system and the VAX system? The Answer is : Yes, files and devices can be shared across OpenVMS platforms. In fact, an OpenVMS Cluster must share certain RMS files -- such as the SYSUAF and RIGHTSLIST files -- and this sharing operates regardless of the particular architecture of the OpenVMS system(s) involved. Here is the typical list of the system files that are shared among all members of an OpenVMS Cluster: SYSUAF SYSUAFALT SYSALF RIGHTSLIST NETPROXY NET$PROXY NETOBJECT NETNODE_REMOTE QMAN$MASTER files, including: QMAN$MASTER.DAT SYS$QUEUE_MANAGER.QMAN$JOURNAL SYS$QUEUE_MANAGER.QMAN$QUEUES LMF$LICENSE VMSMAIL_PROFILE VMS$OBJECTS VMS$AUDIT_SERVER VMS$PASSWORD_HISTORY VMS$PASSWORD_DICTIONARY NETNODE_UPDATE VMS$PASSWORD_POLICY LAN$NODE_DATABASE Some of these files may or may not exist at your site.
