The Question is: We have a VAXstation 4000 Model 90a with a dead video controller. Is there any way to get the system to use a VT320 terminal connected to the serial port instead? I can't find the "S3" switch which older VAXstations apparently had, so I'm wondering if there is a boot monitor command to do the switch? Only the video is dead, so it's still possible to type on the console keyboard (to boot, for example). The Answer is : The Wizard would tend to expect to see the S3 switch behind the door on the front of the VAXstation 4000 model 90 series system enclosure. Most VAXstation systems will generally require the presence of one or more (at least partially functioning) piece(s) of workstation-related hardware -- the specific hardware will vary by the specific VAXstation system, and may include the graphics controller, the workstation keyboard, or some other item -- or they will not identify themselves correctly as a VAXstation for purposes of licensing. If insufficient functional workstation hardware is present in this system for OpenVMS to identify it as a VAXstation 4000 model 90, you may not have access to a software license that will enable operation of the system.
