Alternate console on DEC 3000-400?

The Question is:

 
Typing "SET CONSOLE SERIAL" results in an error.
Typing "HELP SET" shows no valid variable
named CONSOLE. I have read that an internal
jumper named W2 must be changed from 1-2 to
2-3 for the serial console to work on another
3000 model, but no such jumper exists on mine.
Any help you can give me would be greatly
appreciated! My box is 40 miles from me, and
every time I need to reboot, I have to drive
this distance to be local to the box, rather
than accessing the serial console from remote.
 
 

The Answer is :

 
  On the DEC 3000 model 400, use the printer port as the serial console
  (the MMJ pinout is listed in the OpenVMS FAQ), and set the S3 switch
  (located below the printer port) downwards.  Power-cycle the system.
