The Question is:

 
The PPPD utility has DIAL_OUT mode. Would it be
better to have that DIAL_OUT module as a plug-in
module (like transport module for MAIL program)?
It would give possibility to write good automated
dial_out module with redial support.

The Answer is :

 
    	Part of the original plans for the PPP work for VMS was to add
    scripted dial_out support.  We simply ran out of time in the schedule
    to do it.  I like your idea of making dial_out a callable sharable
    image like it is in set host/dte.  Wish we had thought of that at the
    time we did the work.  I will see what can be done about making that
    change in the future.  Release schedules being that they are the
    earlies that could happen would be release after V7.2 ships.  Figure a
    year or more from now.
 
    	What you can do on your own is to modify the PPPD code yourself.
    We have placed all the source code for the PPP project back into the
    public domain.  You need to have DECC installed on your system.  All
    the other tools required to build it are part of the base O.S.
    installation, or are on the freeware CD.
