The Question is: we have a cluster of 3 VAX 4100's running VMS 6.1. Our layered products include pathworks for Mac's. One of our vax in the cluster is configured as a Macintosh router and serves Macintosh disk volumes. our clients are a mix of Windows '95 and Mac G3's. We also have three MS NT 4.0 servers acting as file/print services for our Windows '95 clients and as a DHCP server for our entire campus. we have been using a product called Chameleon to access Macintosh volumes on the VAX via Windows '95. our goal is to consolidate the cluster by ugrading the hardware to (2) Alpha 1200's running Open VMS/AXP 7.2. During this upgrade we would like to introduce the MS NT servers into the picture (cluster?). Also, we would still use the new Alpha's to act as our Macintosh router and provide Macintosh volume support. My question(s) are.... 1.) Will VMS 7.2 provide Macintosh router/volume support via a Pathworks upgrade? 2.) We want to use our new Alpha's as data storage for our Windows '95 clients. Is this possible without the use of Chameleon (CopsTalk?). 3.) We are using DCPS for print services on the VAX, File and Print services for printing on the Windows NT. Macintosh can use the VAX printers via the Pathworks product. It is very confusing when you want to add a printer to the network. we end up creating two queue's, one on the VAX for Mac users and one on the NT Servers for Window '95 user s. Can this be integrated using VMS 7.2? One print queue for all? Thanks in advance, Russ Leathe Gordon College russ@gordon.edu The Answer is : 1: PATHWORKS for OpenVMS (Macintosh) V1.3A will not run and is not supported on OpenVMS 7.2. 2: Yes, using either Advanced Server for OpenVMS V7.2 or PATHWORKS for OpenVMS (Advanced Server) V6.0B. 3: No. See point 1. What you should look at is turn on Services for Macintosh on the Windows NT Server then the answer is yes -- but Windows NT is providing that.
