HP OpenVMS Systemsask the wizard |
The Question is: Hello, I would like to know why is the OpenVMS version of the system not updated when I upgrade from V7.1 to V7.1-1H1 or V7.1-1H2. Thanks, Alain Bollschweiler The Answer is : If the current system and the current configuration is supported on OpenVMS Alpha V7.1 (and no changes to the system hardware or cluster configuration that are first supported by V7.1-1H1 or V7.1-1H2 are required), there is no need and no benefit in upgrading from V7.1 to V7.1-1H1 or to V7.1-1H2. These releases are required strictly for new hardware and new hardware configuration support, and these kits do not contain any ECOs or any other changes -- other than those that are specifically related to the OpenVMS modules changed for the new hardware support. The V7.1-1Hx kits predate the SYS$BASE_IMAGE that was shipped in various subsequently-issued ECO kits, and since the generation of the image that V7.1-1Hx found on the system disk is newer than the version included in the V7.1-1Hx kit itself, the existing version is (correctly) not replaced. Unfortunately, this also means that the displayed OpenVMS version number was not altered. In the specific case of a successful OpenVMS Alpha V7.1-1H2 installation that does not update the displayed version number, use the following commands: $ RUN SYS$LOADABLE_IMAGES:[SYS$LDR]SYSVER REPLACE V7.1-1H2 WRITE $ EXIT Then reboot the system at your leisure.
