The Question is: We bought a Digital Personal Workstation a/au series ALPHA 433MHz and it came with an factory install of VMS 7.1-1H2, but no media. I tried to re-install VMS using our VMS distribution CD with the VMS binaries. However it is for 7.1, not 7.1-1Hx. When I try to boot from the CD (>>>b dka400) it starts to work then it fails > With the error: > %sysboot-I-FileNOTLOC unable to locate sys$cpu_routines_1e05.exe > %sysboot-E-LDFAIL failed to locate execlet, status=0000910 > By the way, I can see that file when I boot the factory installation and access the CD. Do I need a 7.1.1H2 VMS CD to re-install VMS? Is there something I am missing or I can do to get the 7.1 install to work and then upgrade to H2? Any help is greatly appreciated. The Answer is : The required OpenVMS Alpha version for the Personal Workstation -au series is OpenVMS Alpha V7.1-1H1. The Personal Workstation systems are not supported prior to the V7.1-1H1 release. The necessary CD-ROM for V7.1-1H2 -- V7.1-1H2 is a proper superset of the V7.1-1H1 release as discussed elsewhere in Ask The Wizard, and does support the Personal Workstation -au series -- is available under the part number QA-MT1AD-H8. The error status for the executive loadable image (execlet) load error for the processor-specific routines for this system translates to: $ exit %x910 %SYSTEM-W-NOSUCHFILE, no such file $ SCSI CD-ROM drives do not require any additional kit. Support for the IDE CD-ROM drive present on some members of the Personal Workstation -au series will typically require an available additional kit. Also visit the http://search.service.digital.com/ area and locate the recommended and mandatory ECO kits for OpenVMS V7.1-1H2 -- if that is the release you load -- and any ECO kits specifically for support of OpenVMS on the Personal Workstation -au series hardware.
