The Question is: Recently we upgraded out uVax3100-10e system from VMS 6.2 to 7.1. Config: uVax3100-10e @24Mb with updated prom to circumvent the 1 GByte system disk boot limit. 1.0Gb Maxtor system disk 2.0Gb Seagate Barracuda (7200 rpm) 4.3Gb Quantum Atlas (7200 rpm) Archive SCSI Dat tape drive Dec standard 1x CD Rom Toshiba 2x CD Rom Toshiba 6x CD Rom Teac CD_writer (CDR 50) used as 4x CD Rom We observed the following behaviour: 1. With VMS 6.2 there were no problems, except that reading de 6x CD Rom gave a lot of errors. using a Plextor 12x CD_Rom caused a system crash. 2. Now at 7.1 the system starts always with 2 errors on the system disk. 3. Only the 1x and 2x CD_Rom remain usable, the Teac and the 6x CD_rom give during a mount medium ofline. Questions: 1. What has been changed in the DK driver. 2. How do we get our original performance back without downgrading. 3. What caused the system crash with the Plextor in VMS 6.2 Sincerilly. R. Voorhorst The Answer is : Please see existing third-party SCSI device support discussions here in Ask The Wizard -- the Wizard is not in a position to provide third-party SCSI device integration and testing support. (Ensuring that a particular SCSI device operates as expected can be -- and often is -- a large, complex, and on-going project.) Without direct access to the configuration and the specific hardware, it is very difficult to determine exactly what is going on here. Without information on the specific system crash seen with the CD-ROM drive, it is not possible to say what has happened to cause the crash. The Wizard would recommend starting with the ECO kits for F11XQP, RMS, MOUNT, and SCSI, as well as the other recommended (or mandatory) ECO kits available for the release. Inquiries for SCSI device integration and testing services, as well as for assistance researching the cause of the particular sustem crash -- should be directed to the Compaq customer support center.
