The Question is: I want to deinstall layered products like COBOL, CDD-PLUS etc. Is there a procedure for this? I need to do this to make my systems Y2000-compliant. The Answer is : Products installed using PCSI (the PRODUCT INSTALL command) can generally be deinstalled with the PRODUCT REMOVE command. There is no equivalent command for products installed using SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL.COM. Some products provide their own UNINSTALL procedure, others don't. The Wizard does not believe that COBOL or CDD-PLUS provide such a procedure. You can study the VMSINSTAL procedure to determine what images and files were provided and carefully remove them. You may also need to remove commands inserted in DCLTABLES. This is recommended only for those who really understand what they are doing. (and if you can't work out how to do it from the description in this paragraph, you're not one of them!) The simplest way to make your system Year 2000 ready is to install the Year 2000 ready version of the product in question, directly over the existing version. (After reading the associated installation and upgrade documentation, of course.)
