The Question is: A customer of ours was at a DECUS symposium in Memphis and was told that there is a 7.1-2 version out that which would include all accumulated ECOs. I have placed several calls to the pre-sales support lines and they say they have heard of it but they couldn't figure out how to order it. Can anyone there give me the proper part number or procedure to get this kit? Thanks, Rick Peacock Systems Engineer, Wyle Electronics The Answer is : The Wizard is quite familiar with the DECUS LUG meeting that was held in Memphis, and particularly with the session that was presented at Memphis that covered the OpenVMS Alpha V7.1-2 release. During the session, it was stated that the release was not available quite yet, as it was, after all, a futures presentation. That said, the OpenVMS Alpha V7.1-2 release contains a roll-up of the new hardware that was supported by the existing V7.1, V7.1-1H1 and V7.1-1H2 releases, the ECO kits that were available at the time, and support for specific new hardware based on the 21264 (EV6) Alpha microprocessor. Because there are few new features -- the release contains new hardware support and the aforementioned ECO roll-up -- OpenVMS Alpha V7.1-2 is considered a maintenance release. The release will be distributed to all contract customers -- customers on the standard OpenVMS operating system software distribution will receive the media automatically. As was stated in the Memphis session, the V7.1-2 release was expected by the end of 1998 and would begin shipments to customers subscribing to the standard distribution in early 1999. To quote an earlier response to a similar discussion of the availability of the V7.1-2 release posed here in Ask The Wizard, "The Wizard still hasn't fully reached the lattermost parts of 1998."
