The Question is: We have a vendor that is supplying us with software on a 4mm DAT tape. They are running OpenVMS 6.1 and and creating tapes with a TLZ06 tape drive. We are using OpenVMS 7.1 on an Alpha with a TLZ10 tape drive. I have not been able to retrieve any data off of the tapes they send me. Are these 2 tape drives totally incompatible ? Thanks The Answer is : There is insufficient information here -- specific information on the commands used, the error messages received, the error information displayed by DECevent using DIAGNOSE, the 4mm DAT tape length used, and various other information will likely be required. Please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center for further assistance. The Wizard would expect to be able to exchange tapes between these two drives, assuming that compatible compression levels are used. The TLZ10 is expected to be read/write compatible with the media used in the TLZ04, TLZ06, TLZ6L loader, TLZ07, TLZ7L loader, TLZ09, TLZ9l loader and other DDS, DDS-DC, and DDS-2, DDS-3 compliant DDS tape drives. The TLZ10 is DDS-3, and is intended to be fully compatible with DDS-2, DDS-1, and DDS-DC drives -- though remember that earlier drives will not tolerate TLZ10 compression and may or may not tolerate DDS-3 media.
