The Question is: We are receiving reports that since the Christmas break "$ print/que=fin_lj1/form=port_ln03/copies=2" causes data to be printed on the same page as the second flag page. A "$ ucx sh version" reports that "We are running DEC TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS VAX Version V3.3 on a VAX 4000-500 running OpenVMS V5.5-2" The problem report was originally for the queue fin_lj1, however, due to its location in another building, test queues (mis_lj_lat and mis_lj_test) were set up. Tests were run with different device control libraries and reset modules. The results seem to indicate the problem may be with the ucx$telnetsym. You will want to consider what changed prior to the initial incidence of the problem, particularly any changes that may have triggered this error. Your OpenVMS and TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS versions are both woefully out of date -- V7.2 and V5.0 are current. The last ECO released for V3.3 was circa ECO 10 -- the Wizard does not believe ECOs for releases prior to V4.0 are available at present. Also check for ECOs for the queue manager and for the print symbiont. The Wizard would recommend moving to the current ECO for V3.3 -- this will require acquiring the kit from the customer support center, if it is even available -- or moving to V4.0 or later (with the current ECO). (There were fixes circa V3.3 for top-of-form processing that may be related to this problem.) Use of a burst page might be a workaround. Please confirm the use the specified reset sequence: +]VMS;2+\+P+E+\ for blank page suppression, where + represents the escape character. Also, as a test, please try: +P+E+\+]VMS;2+\ Also see if the printer is set for seven-bit or eight-bit characters. The above sequence assumes seven-bit. Also check to see if language switching is available with the printer, and if it is enabled. The Wizard would expect you will need to contact the customer support center, as information on the specific printer will be required. The use of a data analyzer, serial line monitor or other tool may also be required. (Also remember that the use of DCPS is required if the target printer is a Postscript printer.) You may also need to identify various other software packages in use on the OpenVMS host, as well as any other access to the printer from other systems.
