Longer filenames and confused coworkers?

The Question is:

 
Is there a way to get around the max filename length of
39 for the filename and 39 for the file extension.
Some of the people I work with have said they remember
generating filenames longer than 39 characters on older
versions of VMS.

The Answer is :

 
  Yes, OpenVMS V7.2 supports this capability -- Extended File Naming.
