The Question is: I have a system running under VMS wich uses the mailboxes to exchange data between processes. If I use a software to read the mailbox being a user of the same group as all the pprocesses, there is no problem, but if i try to use the same software being another user of a different group, I have an error when initializating the mailboxes. I think it may be a problem of the software that is running, or a problem of having access to mailboxes of another group. The question is: Do you know if there is a restriction of reading mailboxes when read by a software that is using a user from a diferent group ? Thank you. The Answer is : When asking questions, please remember to include the specific and full text of the error message(s) received -- there are many potential error messages on OpenVMS, providing the specific message seen can point the Wizard to the actual error condition. There are two potential (likely) considerations here, the first being the device protection mask assigned to the mailbox (you will want to allow group or more likely world access, or you will want to add an ACL on the device) and the second being the location of the logical name table used to contain the logical names that allow the mailbox names to be translated into the mailbox MBAn: device names (LNM$PERMANENT_MAILBOX for permanent mailboxes, LNM$TEMPORARY_MAILBOX for temporary mailboxes).
