The Question is: We have a system consisting of two AXP 1200's and one DEC 3000 running in a non-homogenous cluster. However, we would like to find a solution that would allow us to run this system as a homogenous cluster, WITHOUT setting up a LAT-service. We really don't want to use LAT over our WAN-links, for obvious reasons. But we would like to be able to just log in to "the cluster", rather than manually selecting the node. We thought about setting up a router that would translate our IP-commmunication to a LAT-servi ce, but that would leave us with a single-point of failure at the router. Is there a way to set this up without a LAT-service? The Answer is : LAT, DECnet, and IP all support a cluster alias mechanism.
