Setting up modem on DECserver 700?

The Question is:

 
OpenVMS version 7.1 on Alphaserver4000 with DEC server 700 - 8 :
Sub : Terminal connectivity using Dialup Modem .
Dear Sirs , We have been trying to setup a remote terminal with VT220
terminal on a test basis with DEC server 700 using dialup modems . We have
set up the terminal server port from the local prompt to : i) modem control
ii)Flow control to CTS iii) DTRwait iv) RING enabled v) protocol Autolink .
With combinations of these settings , and by specifying TTY_DIALTYPE param.
to 3 from SYSGEN util. we are unable to setup the communication . Please
inform us as to
what settings are essential to set up this link .

The Answer is :

 
  Please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center for assistance
  with the DECserver 700 terminal server settings.
 
  NB: On OpenVMS and with classic DIGITAL serial devices, flow control
  is normally set to in-band (XON/XOFF), not to hardware flow control.
