Logging in on console?

» close window

The Question is:

I have a DEC300 running v6.2 with a VT hooked up as the console which works
fine. There is a graphics card in the box but the S3 switch is set to
external console mode.
We built another disk at v7.0 and rebooted to that new disk. We lose the
connection to our console when the system finishes booting. We see output
to the console but it never gives us a login prompt.
Is there something different in v7.0 to enable the console?

The Answer is :

The mechanism used to enable access to the console is the same, the
Wizard would assume there is an application accessing the console.

Please contact the customer support center.

Details on the last information displayed on the console will likely
  required.

You will be required to log in from another source, and check the
ownership and device attributes of the OPA0: device. Look for a
process that owns the OPA0: device -- the device must not be owned
for any OpenVMS login request to be initiated on the device. (There
have been cases where applications using SHARE privilege have had
interreactions and have gotten the state of the console "confused".)
You will also want to perform an AUTOGEN on the system, after cleaning
the uncorroborated settings out of the SYS$SYSTEM:MODPARAMS.DAT file.

The Wizard would recommend moving to OpenVMS Alpha V7.1 or later, as
  V7.0 is no longer supported.
