Compatibility of BACKUP across versions, platforms

The Question is:

 
Can I restore a saveset made by the Backup
Utility on a VAX running VMS v5.5-2 on an Alpha
running OpenVMS v7.1 ? Where is this information
documented ? I need BOTH an answer to this
question and a document that I can reference.

The Answer is :

 
  BACKUP is upward-compatible across OpenVMS versions, and is also
  largely downward-compatible as well.  The BACKUP savesets created
  are compatible across the OpenVMS VAX and OpenVMS Alpha platforms.
