The Question is: Are there any utilities to monitor VAX MAIL - not the contents but who's sending to whom. If not, is there anywhere I can find documentation on the names and structures of the mail files to do this myself. The Answer is : Specific network activity can be monitored via the accounting and auditing utilities. OpenVMS does not specifically monitor the contents (headers) of mail messages, which is what would be required to track the (reputed or actual) sender. (Mail operating through gateways inherently traverses intermediate hosts -- tracking the origin of the message requires parsing the message headers.) Firewalls sometimes provide this capability, as do some network monitors -- those coded to recognize and interprete SMTP traffic.
