Y2K?

The Question is:

I am a Deputy Fire Chief in a community with 3
fire stations and a population of 50,000.

We have an Alpha Server 400 running with version
6.2 (I believe) of VMS. I have no idea as to
what open VMS is versus regular VMS. Please
briefly advise me as to whether we will have
Y2K problems with our system. We have a software
vendor who is indicating that their software is
Y2K compliant, but that they are saying that there
are problems with VMS. They claim to be studying
the problem but we are not geting any answers yet.

Thank you. Robert Halloran, Deputy Chief
            Leominster Fire Dept.

The Answer is :

"In 1997, we investigated and tested the OpenVMS operating system for the
year 2000 and beyond. No problems were found in any simulations and our
investigations uncovered only a very few minor limitations in several
  older and rarely used components."

Please see the OpenVMS FAQ for information on Y2K, and on the difference
(specifically the lack of difference) between OpenVMS and VMS.

Pointers to the recommended Y2K testing procedures, as well as information
on the ECO kits are available in the FAQ, as well.
