MAIL and distribution list file formats?

The Question is:

 
I am having a problem with large mail
distribution lists that started when I
upgraded to VMS 7.1.  I have applied patches
ALPBASE02_071 and ALPMAIL03_071. Using a 6000
record distribution list with 16 bytes/record,
I get the following error:
 
$mail
You have 10 new messages.
MAIL> send
To:     @mylist
%STR-F-STRTOOLON, string is too long (greater
 than 65535)
 
 
If I use the old mail program, mail/old, the
 list is mailed with no errors.
 
Is this a known problem, and is there a patch
 available for it?

The Answer is :

 
  Please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center.  Expect to be
  asked for the details of the record structure of the distribution
  list file, and possibly for a copy of the distribution list file.
 
  Without additional details, it is difficult to determine if this
  is a problem with the file that the old MAIL (where it was not
  noticing this), or if it is a problem with the new MAIL.
