Third-party printer support? (HP 4000)

The Question is:

 
I am trying to print to an HP4000 printer in Landscape, Compressed print and
for whatever reason the 1st line on every page does not print.  When I print
portrait everything prints out correctly.  Any Ideas?

The Answer is :

 
  OpenVMS does not support arbitary text printers, though the DCPS package
  does support specific third-party Postscript printers.
 
  Please first determine exactly what is being sent to the printer using
  a serial line monitor or similar, and then determine what is required
  or assumed by the HP printer.  If these steps do not make the particular
  problem clear, please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center, as well
  as HP Support.
 
  As for some of the various discussions of the HP LaserJet 4000 series
  printers, please see following topics here in Ask The Wizard:

  The former topic is likely the best starting point for most questions
