The Question is: If I have an image installed in memory (like version 69) and I need to install a new version of that code (version 70) while the users are on the system, how can I distribute the new image? Can I remove the installed version 69 while users are running it? Can I install version 70 while users are using version 69 or do I have to wait for all the users to sign off the system? Thanks. The Answer is : What is possible depends greatly on the design of the application and of the particular image itself. If the image is compatible across adjacent application versions, then you can likely replace the existing image and roll the users to the new version. If the application is not compatible, you will have to cause the users to exit the image, replace the image, and then restart the user applications. OpenVMS V6.2 and later can have two images of the same file name installed entirely in parallel.
