The Question is: I have two alpha machines and each have its own decnet and ip address. At a given time one machine runs as online machine. The online machine will always have the same decnet address and ip address irrespective of which is running as online. For example m achine a has dec add 2.137 and ip 129.1.130.100 running as online and machine b has dec add 2.138 and ip 129.1.130.101 running as backup. Both on the network. Some times there is a need to swap the ip and dec add on a and b machine Q. How can I change the decnet address and ip add using a command procedure and automate it rather than using ucx$config and decnet_register/net$configure The Answer is : Reconfiguring the DECnet and IP addresses from within a command procedure is not an approach the OpenVMS Wizard would recommend. Consider configuring the two systems into an OpenVMS Cluster, and using an alias. (This allows both systems to be online as necessary, with both operating in parallel.) Configure the two systems with a cluster alias, and start and stop the alias as required. (This works, but having both operational at the same time should only be performed while the systems are configured in an OpenVMS Cluster.) Use a distributed name service (DECdns, IP DNS, or similar) to resolve the necessary target task addresses within the client tasks -- this avoids coding the address(es) into the applications.
