The Question is: (Using Clusters for LockMgr/DLM only/mostly..) We were looking at solns for a distributed election problem (we want a only a designated 'primary' system to perform some set of tasks), across 5-10 unclustered, stand-alone but networked systems, split betw. 2 sites. and it occurred to me, that a sledge-hammer approach, might be to *consider* clustering these systems in most minimal fashion. ie, heterogeneous (we've no/very few interactive users), ie, w/ no shared storage. such that we might use the DLM across the lan, for some v. small set of locking tasks. Are there more than a few customers doing this? would it be remotely close to being supported? or would we be better off to brew/grow our own distributed controls ? The Answer is : This OpenVMS Cluster configuration -- with multiple system disks and various system-specific activities -- is fully supported, presuming the following assumptions hold: o sufficient (Ethernet or better ) bandwidth and latency on all intra-cluster links. o the cluster must be configured as a single security domain. For information on the files that must be shared within an OpenVMS Cluster, please see the V7.2 and later versions of the SYLOGICALS.TEMPLATE file, and please see the OpenVMS Cluster documentation in the OpenVMS manual set.
