The Question is: Hi, We have a 2100 4/275 Alpha with a CPU upgrade coming. VMS is at V7.1 My question is about VMS recognizing dual cpu's. Is there an autogen or reinstall of VMS to recognize the dual cpu's . This system is an Administrative production system uses in a University environment. I'm interested to hear your comments, Thanks, Steve Smith The Answer is : A pass of AUTOGEN (with FEEDBACK) is generally recommended after making hardware configuration changes, but OpenVMS will automatically recognize and use multiple processors -- assuming a sufficient number of license units are available. No specific changes are required. AUTOGEN with FEEDBACK is also recommended after any system load changes or system reconfigurations, with periodic passes and reboots until (well) after the system load has stabilized in the new configuration. A weekly set of AUTOGEN passes to tune the system -- with the associated reboots to activate the new parameter settings -- over a month or longer interval are common after major changes in the configuration or the system load.
