The Question is: ENTRY NUMBER IN QUEUES JUMPED TO SEVEN DIGITS. We are running OpenVMS 6.2 on our VMSCluster of Four VAXes. There are hundereds of print and Batch queues running on these VAXes. The problem is: After Entry number 9999, the Queue Manager has started generating Entry number in seven digits like 1000nnn. There are no entries in Five or SIX digits. Even after rebooting all the VAXes the entry are generated in either seven digits or some times these are in two to four digits. We Cannot start Queue Manager with /new_version because of hundereds of jobs always submitted. The Question is can we initialize the Entry number without creating new version of Queues Database. Any suggessions other than initialization of Queues Database. Thanks M. AJMAL MINHAS KFH RIYADH The Answer is : The OpenVMS queue entry number is an opaque longword value, the behaviour you report is entirely normal and expected for the current (undocumented) algorithm used to generate entry numbers. If you have a layered product or application that has assumptions on the size or format of a queue entry number, please contact the vendor or support organization. If you wish to start over with smaller entry numbers, you must recreate the entire queue database. Also please realize that the queue entry numbers may well (eventually or immediately) reach the current values again after the queue database is recreated.
