The Question is: Dear Wizard - please save me. I am moving off of LAT queues to either LPD or Telnesym queues. I'm trying to connect to an HP Jet direct card. I am using TELNETSYM at the moment and get the following error message, even after setting the logical tcpip$t elnetsym_streams to 1. Error: psm-e-writerr, error writing !AS system-f-noiochan, no I/O channel available. The queue is initialized like this: init/queue/on="ipaddress:9001"/processor=tcpip$telnetsym is_q Where ipaddress is the actual ipaddress of the jet direct card. The Answer is : It would appear that you do not have the IP address or the port correct, or that there is a problem with the printer, or that there is a problem with the host software. You already know this. The OpenVMS Wizard would first look for things that might consume or otherwise limit I/O channels in the print symbiont, this would include many other queues using the same symbiont, or unusually low process quotas for the username the symbiont is operating under -- ensure that the quotas are appropriate for the username. This problem could also potentially be caused by a bug in the symbiont or in the underlying PSM routines, as well. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell what the specific problem is without far more information, including the TCP/IP product (and version) (though this is probably the TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS Product, and probably V5.0), the specific HP Printer (also check the printer firmware), details of the JetDirect card configuration, etc. Assuming this is TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS, please contact the Compaq Customer Support Center.
