The Question is: Hello We are running DEC COBOL version 2.1 and using the command AFTER PAGE. When sending the document to a Brother printer an initial blank page is printing with &E at the top. My question is what escape sequence exactly is created by the AFTER PAGE command? It does not appear to be the Decimal 012 for ASCII FF when I do a dump of the report file. thank you The Answer is : The OpenVMS Wizard would suspect that what you are seeing from the AFTER PAGE is not an escape sequence, but is the fixed control portion of the VFC (variable with fixed control) record. COBOL LINAGE and REPORT WRITER output files tend to be created using the VFC format -- DCL commands such as PRINT/NOFEED can sometimes be used to print these files. As for monitoring the particular escape or control sequences used, the OpenVMS Wizard would suggest substituting a VT series terminal or similar tool for the printer -- many VT terminals include a setup option that will permit display of the controls -- and looking at what is displayed on the terminal.
