Clearing Device Error Counts?

The Question is:

 
How does one zero the error count on a device such as PEA0: under both
OpenVMS V5.52 and V7.2 ?

The Answer is :

 
  There is presently no supported way to clear the device error count,
  short of rebooting the system.
 
  The more adventurous could create and then risk the use of a kernel-mode
  tool to clear the device error count -- errors in kernel-mode tools can
