The Question is: We are soon upgrading to V7.1, but there will be development, testing and support requirements under V6.2. Is there a Virtual Machine option running multiple operating systems simultaneously on a single Alpha server? The Answer is : There is no virtual machine support for OpenVMS. The addition of this support was seriously considered, but multiple systems and a mixed-version OpenVMS Cluster were found to be a far more practical approach. That said, with OpenVMS Alpha V7.2 and later, multiple instances of OpenVMS Alpha can operate within specific AlphaServer series systems, in an OpenVMS Galaxy configuration. An OpenVMS Galaxy is also not a virtual machine, but rather can be viewed as a collection of cooperating OpenVMS peer systems operating within a single AlphaServer system.
