The Question is: A customer of ours is running OpenVMS 7.1-h2 on an AlphaServer 1200. If the system is left at the graphics console login screen for a period of time, the screen will go blank - which is expected. But when the mouse or keyboard it touched the login scree n does not return - only the mouse pointer and a grayed-out background. The system must be rebooted to get the console screen back. If the system is left logged-in, ie. with several DECterms going in a user account, this does not happen - the screen times-out and comes back as expected. All hardware components of the AlphaServer 1200 are standard, supported options. I remember seeing this before somewhere but I can't find the answer now. However, I think it is OpenVMS related and there may have been a patch for this. Thanks for any help or pointers. Rick Peacock Systems Engineer, Wyle Systems The Answer is : Acquire and apply the DECwindows ECO kit for the version of DECwindows in use. Ensure that the graphics card is a supported option. Check for any errors in the DECwindows server log file: SYS$MANAGER:DECW$SERVER*ERROR.LOG Check for and apply newer Open3D kits or OpenVMS device driver ECO kits applicable to the particular graphics card in use. Does the problem occur with the DECwindows Motif desktop or with the DECwindows CDE desktop. Check for any old or unneeded DECW$*.* device configuration files (erroneously) located in SYS$SPECIFIC:. Ensure that DECwindows has sufficient pagefile -- depending on the level of activity, an increase using DECW$SERVER_PAGE_FILE may be required.
