The Question is: We are installing CA Unicenter as an enterprise wide management system, and as one segment of the project wish to send non-time-critical health status messages from our time critical real-time data acquisition system to Unicenter via OPCOM. Unicenter then processes these messages and takes approriate actions I have two questions: 1. Does the Wiz see significant overhead in sending messages to OPCOM in a real-time environment ? 2. I see that $SNDOPR returns successfully when an OPCOM message is sent with no specific destination operator specified. Does this ever get to OPCOM (I know it doesn't appear at a any terminals) ? If not, is there any mechanism to send OPCOM messages whi ch avoids bringing up messages on terminals ? Thanks from down under Chris Callaghan Transpower (NZ) Ltd The Answer is : There is no particular single definition of "real time", as each site and each application can have its own unique response time design requirements. If OPCOM works, then use it. If it does not meet your specific real-time requirements, you will need to discuss these with CA and with Compaq Customer Support Center. OPCOM is not particularly designed for communications between programs -- OPCOM is designed as a way for an application to communicate with a human operator. The recently released event services that are provided for use with OpenVMS V7.2 -- and specifically for use with OpenVMS Galaxy -- would likely be closer to meeting the requirement for communications between applications.) Please contact CA for assistance with this question, and with available options for interfacing applications and application information into the CA environment.
