The Question is: ON an upgrade from 6.1 to 7.1 for Y2K compliancy, 7.1 starts the Opcom process. We do not use this process for our software application running on the Vax. Is there a way to stop this process on a permanent basis? Thanks for you time John Vassel Technical Support Specialist Security Technologies Group Canton Mi The Answer is : OPCOM is generally assumed to be present, and is generally required for operation within an OpenVMS Cluster. The OpenVMS Wizard does not recommend disabling OPCOM -- OPCOM is used by a variety of mechanisms including security alarms and (obviously) by the REQUEST and REPLY commands, by MOUNT and BACKUP and other commands, and by any user applications that call the sys$sndopr system service. If you choose to (try to) disable the OPCOM process, consider using commands similar to the following: SYSMAN> STARTUP SET DATABASE STARTUP$STARTUP_VMS SYSMAN> STARTUP DISABLE FILE VMS$CONFIG-050_OPCOM.COM/NODE=* If you simply wish to disable the output from the OPCOM process on various terminals such as the system console OPA0:, please see the information in the SYS$STARTUP:SYLOGICALS.TEMPLATE file.
