Modem on DECconnect MMJ? (serial wiring)

The Question is:

 
I have a VAXStation3100. Can I drive a Modem at the serial port? (The serial
port has only six pins.)

The Answer is :

 
  Yes, but not with modem control.  This lack of modem control means that
  the modem will not have the ability to remain on-hook when the system
  is down, and the host will not have the ability to request the modem to
  disconnect when the host session is terminated.
