The Question is: I have NTPD running on a VAXstation 4000-90 running OpenVMS DEC TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS VAX Version V3.3. It's getting sync'd from a router. The VAX syncs very well after a period of time. What I would like to do, is to use the VAX as a sync source for my NT PC. I have an NT package to sync to an NTP source. When I sync my PC to the router it works well, but when I sync my PC to the VAX the date shifts from 08/27/1999 14:11:59 to 02/07/2036 08:12:34 What can be the problem ? The Answer is : Assuming the OpenVMS NTP host is configured as a time provider -- as described elsewhere here in Ask The Wizard -- the OpenVMS Wizard would first recommend an upgrade to TCP/IP Services V4.2 with the current ECO. The OpenVMS Wizard will assume the Windows NT client is an NTP client and not an SNTP client. Versions of TCP/IP Services prior to V5.0 have relatively old versions of NTP, and you will want to ensure that the client package is capable of accepting and correctly interpreting time from these older versions. (TCP/IP Services V5.0 is the first release that provide NTP v3 support.) If the problem persists, check the logs on the OpenVMS NTP server and particularly on the Windows NT NTP client, and then contact the Compaq Customer Support Center for assistance.
